Close Encounters

A concept illustration of an alien creature I did for fun and exercise.
I started it in Painter and finished the texturing and coloring in Photoshop.
The symmetry tool in Painter 12 is real fun to start a drawing.
I do these kind of paintings rather intuitively and let the drawing lead me the way.
While I am drawing and painting I start to fantasize on how and where this creature lives.
Perhaps he lives in a deep murky ocean on a faraway world, and communicates with light and ultrasound, who knows...

A detail view with the textures.

The initial underpainting was done in Painter 12 using the symmetry tool with the dull conté, oil pastel and scratch tool.

I did this painting in Painter XII in approx 75 minutes.
I did not go into deep detail, just trying to establish a nice atmosphere.
