serenity |səˈrenitē|
noun ( pl. -ties)
the state of being calm, peaceful, and untroubled
ORIGIN late Middle English : from Old French serenite, from Latin serenitas, from serenus ‘clear, fair’
I wrote this piece in the end this year.
2009 is running to its end and it is time to look back and forward.
When looking back, we often think about the people who died this year. I have friends who lost their mother, nieces and nephews who lost their father...
Some of the deceased were well know to everyone, like Natasha Richardson, Maurice Jarre, Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, David Carradine, Ted Kennedy, Patrick Swayze, Ramses Shaffy, Roy Disney and many others. I was very touched by the suicide of belgian singer Yasmine (Hilde Rens) in june, who’s music I liked very much.
This song is dedicated to all these people, and I hope they found serenity...
This song is also dedicated to all of you...
In our mad rush world, may the new year bring some moments of serenity...

All My Dreams
A couple of days later I wrote this song...
"All My Dreams", for all those days that end in shame...
I recorded the first demo of this song in 2007, but now finally there is a new arrangement and music video...
Beware, some of the images in the video are not for the faint-hearted...
I invite you to watch and listen the video in high definition on my website in the "Music Videos" section.

"Indigo" by Geert Amant

My dear friend Geert Amant recently released his new cd “Indigo”.
I was honoured to participate in this project by creating the artwork for the booklet, invitations, posters etc...
I tried to picture Geert in a way to capture his spirit, in his favourite landscape in the beautiful Ardèche...
Check out his myspace to discover some of his new music.
You will also find the dates for live shows over there.
Please note that his myspace is maintained by Ann Joly, who is also in charge for booking, reservations and ordering the cd.

Relics X - moment of eternity

The latest track in the Relics series is now online... enjoy....
JANUARY 15, 1996: One peek into a small part of the sky, one giant leap back in time. The Hubble telescope has provided mankind's deepest, most detailed visible view of the universe.
Representing a narrow "keyhole" view stretching to the visible horizon of the universe, the Hubble Deep Field image covers a speck of the sky only about the width of a dime 75 feet away. Though the field is a very small sample of the heavens, it is considered representative of the typical distribution of galaxies in space, because the universe, statistically, looks largely the same in all directions. Gazing into this small field, Hubble uncovered a bewildering assortment of at least 1,500 galaxies at various stages of evolution...
(Read the complete article about the Hubble Deep Field here.)
Take a moment of peace and contemplation and dream about infinity and eternity while listening to the music...
Every dot, every smudge you see on this picture is a galaxy. Each contains thousands and thousands of stars, of which many have planets around them. And then, consider that this picture is only a tiny part of the sky where there seems nothing to be when you look up...
This is how Hubble makes us humans feel humble... in this view of a moment of eternity...

Relics IX • elegy for an abandoned dream
I still love flying and when I see pilots walking by in the airport I still think, what if...?
At a young age, I had to alter my goals and now I have become a different kind of aeronaut. These days, I take people on an imaginary journey through my paintings and music.
Having a dream can be a powerful motivation, and I believe we should all dare to dream, dreams keep us young.
A man with no dreams will turn old fast.
On the other hand, one should also be prepared to let go when realizing that a dream is unattainable. Stubbornly pursuing an impossible dream could turn out to be immobilizing, prevent you from growing and make you very unhappy.
This is an elegy for an abandoned dream... a sad and loving goodbye...
"On the wind" - Instrumental version by Blue Planet & Mindmovie
Knowing what a talented musician and amazing guitar player he is, I was very excited by this idea.
After Mindmovie came up with some terrific guitar work, the piece went back to Henning and using the new material he wrote a new arrangement for this version.
I am really amazed by how many beautiful versions this project has already delivered and I hope you will all enjoy this enchanting instrumental version.
"Chislehurst Rose" - collaboration with Artie Q
"Genom Skyar" a new swedish version
"Falling Leaves" - fantasia on a piano theme by Simon Husberg
"On the wind" - Original Version: remixed and remastered
After his wonderful work on the Blue Planet version I asked Henning if he would like to perform his music production skills on the remix and mastering of the original version.
The original vocals by Ann were a great performance, but technically the performance had some flaws. Henning now mixed some of the new vocals we recently recorded with the best parts from the original version.
We communicated over the internet how everything should sound and finally we came to a version we were both very happy with.
Thanks again Henning!

Obama
The piece of music "Voices of Hope" was written shortly after his election and I was certainly inspired by him when I composed it.
The tasks he is facing are huge and difficult and I hope he will get help and support from people from all over the world to make the world a better place again for us and future generations.
Feel free to download "Voices of Hope" from my website and share it with your friends and family.
Below a picture of my wife, my daughter and me when we were having a great time on the Mall last summer (my son took the picture). Not as crowded as yesterday though...
