Over the years I have made dozens of Disney illustrations, and in this section I am presenting them in an archive, and arranged by character or movie.
On the right you can choose from different portfolio’s, some will contain many pictures and others just a few.
The classic movies (Snow White, Bambi, Fantasia, etc...) are presented together in one album, because the number of artworks of each is limited.

These pictures were all traditional airbrush/paintbrush illustrations in acrylic and gouache on Schoellerhammer paper, and they are mainly from the 90’s.
In this period Disney released one main animation film every year (The Lion King, Pocahontas, Hercules, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, etc...) and my job was to create artwork for the Disney licensees while the movie was still in production. Disney supplied us with source material and information so that I could create the illustrations while the studio’s were finishing the movie. They showed us some finished clips, rough and cleanup pencil animation so that we got a good idea of the story and style of the film. I was not always easy to create this artwork, but the final products had to be in the stores by the time to movie was released in the theatres.

At a certain time I worked about four months a year only on illustrations for the main movie of the year. Later on, this kind of work became less important for various reasons, for example:
  • more studio’s released more animation movies during the year, so the competition got tougher and clients made less products of one movie only.
  • the rise of digital animation with less need for traditionally painted artwork.
  • the clients got interested in more long term brands like Winnie The Pooh, Disney Princess, ... and less in short term project like movies.
  • Disney started to create more styleguides with ready to use material for their licensees, so there was less need for custom made artwork.

The quality in these images varies. Some are scanned from originals, other from printed material and other from quick snapshots I took when the painting was finished.
I still have a lot of this artwork in my archive, but also a part remained with clients. There is artwork of which I have no images anymore, not even a snapshot, so this archive is certainly not complete.
For example, although I did some illustrations for Mulan, I have not recovered any of this material yet.
When I recover lost material, I will add it in a later stage to this catalog.
