aeronaut |ˈe(ə)rəˌnôt|
noun chiefly historical
a traveler in a hot-air balloon, airship, or other flying craft.
ORIGIN late 18th cent.: from French aéronaute, from Greek aēr ‘air’ + nautēs ‘sailor.’

On this website you can read about our company, founded by myself and my wife, Karin. For more than 20 years we have been active in art, illustration, graphic design, ceramics and music.
The origin of the company name "aeronaut" is as follows:
I started as an airbrush illustrator. The airbrush is a device that permits you to spray small amounts of paint on a paper or object. The "aerograph", as it was originally called, was invented in the last quarter of the 19th century and used to retouch photographs.
With my paintings I want to take the viewer on a voyage. (I feel creating a painting is also always some kind of journey.) This journey of creation for me is the most important drive to create artwork, be it a painting, image or piece of music.
People often tell me "I would never have the patience to create something like that". I try to explain that it is not really a question of patience, but of fully enjoying the creation itself and the satisfaction of overcoming the difficulties and challenges that every new piece of work offers you.
I hope you all enjoy this website. So, jump on board the airship and let us take you on an imaginary journey...

I started as an airbrush illustrator and custom paint artist and worked for several years in TRIAS illustration studio in Antwerp, while doing freelance work and custom painting on cars and motorbikes at home. I won several awards for my custom airbrush work on cars and motorbikes.
In 1996 I left the studio and started on my own as a freelance illustrator and designer. At that time, most of my work was hand drawn and painted illustrations. (Mainly for Disney and their licensees.) A lot has changed since then, and most of our work is now done on the computer using Macs, Wacom Cintiq, Adobe software, Painter, and other software. Working on the computer has become faster and easier to edit than traditional painting on cardboard. Nowadays we do almost everything like illustration, painting, photo retouching, logo design, packaging design, product design, cd cover design, etc...
Some of the clients we worked for are Disney, Frajodis, Studio 100, Tupperware, Panda, Tribeco, Donau Design, Lotus Bakeries, Mediamind, Nicotoy, Carta Mundi, Adimex, etc...
Due to confidentiality agreements it is not always possible to show our most recent work on this website.

My wife, Karin Wauters is also a professional ceramist with over 20 years experience.

Most of my freetime, I spend on making music. I am working on various music projects which you can read about and listen to most of it here on my website.
In 2008, the first EP “Dreams Are Buried Here...”, a collaboration project with Achim Wierschem (Mindmovie - Germany) and Robin Thomas Quinn (Artie Q - USA), was released on iTunes and other major download stores.
I also collaborated on cd’s from Mindmovie (“Ocean Of Dreams”) and Artie Q (“Collaborations”)
My own music will eventually be released on cd and in download stores, but no exact date has been set up yet.
Below are the latest music tracks added to the website.
This website is in english only, below an apology to my fellow Flemish citizens:
Waarom een ééntalig engelse website?
Ik heb er een tijdje over gedacht om de website tweetalig nederlands/engels te maken, maar voor een website van deze omvang zou dit voor mij een enorme hoop werk betekenen. Deze tijd besteed ik liever aan het creëren van nieuw artwork en muziek. Ik dank u voor uw begrip. Indien u vragen of opmerkingen hebt kunt u mij uiteraard in het Nederlands contacteren.
