Vuur

dutch arrangement by Diana Warkor and me
featuring Deryn Cullen on cello

The idea for a dutch/flemish version of "On the wind" dates from before I started with this project. Already in beginning 2007 I started working on a dutch translation of my own english lyrics. However, there were still a few lines I was not totally happy with...
I was very happy when Diana Warkor agreed to work on the dutch version. I love her voice and work a lot and I was hoping to work with her since a long time.
She started working on the lyrics based on my earlier work and she came up with a solution that I never thought of... she cut a few lines and changed some lines and that made it just perfect...
We also decided both that “Vuur” (= Fire) was a better title for the dutch version.
She recorded her vocals on the existing arrangement. Afterwards I worked on the arrangements and added a few woodwinds to make it more lyrical and weeping, to accord with the vocals.
Thank you for your wonderful work Di !

The cello on this version is played by Deryn Cullen from Entropik.

Met de wind
Vloog je heen
De vlammen namen
Je met zich mee
Vuur, brandt zo diep
Nam mijn hart
Schroeide mijn ziel

Nu ben je weg
Veel te ver van hier
Ik hoor je stem nog
Of was dat terwijl ik sliep?
Ik wist niet dat het ochtendlicht
Zo koud kon zijn
Zo hard op mijn gezicht

Ik zou willen rennen
Heb geen idee waarheen
Wat ik ook doe
Mijn gedachten nemen je mee
Ik hoor je lach nog
Als uit een verre tijd
Je was nog aan mijn zij

Met de wind
Je laatste vlucht
Brachten de vlammen
Duisternis of licht?
Vuur, weet jij waarheen?
Eens zien we elkaar weer
Vuur, je brandt zo diep
Nam mijn hart
Liet mij alleen
Met mijn verdriet…
